BOLOGNA WALKING TOUR

If you want to get to know Bologna on a complete half-day tour , this private tour is definitely the one for you.

We will walk through the millennial history of the historic center, discovering the peculiarities of this unique city which houses the oldest university in the western world (dated 1088 AD .!), Over 40 kilometers of arcades and a gastronomy that the whole world envies us!
At the end of the private tour I can give you various tips on how to organize your afternoon, what not to miss and some good restaurants where to stop for lunch or dinner.

We will start our walking tour in Piazza del Nettuno (or in another agreed location), here we will see King Enzo's Palace and the Sala Borsa , a library open to the public and with a beautiful Liberty-style ceiling. We will continue with the fountain of Neptune, one of the symbols of the city: a pagan god to celebrate a Christian pope.
In Piazza Maggiore we will see the most important buildings in the city's history: Palazzo del Podestà, Palazzo d'Accursio, the current town hall and then the Basilica of San Petronio (with entrance).
We will discover the meaning of "Bologna la Dotta" by visiting the Archiginnasio , seat of the millennial university of Bologna dated 1088 after Christ.
Finally we will visit the two towers , Asinelli and Garisenda talking about that medieval period in which there were up to 80 towers in the city!
Returning to the square we will stop to see a center of great spirituality, the complex of Santo Stefano also called "Seven Churches" and we will conclude our itinerary in the so-called Quadrilatero or "medieval market": here we will talk about Mortadella, Parma Ham, Parmigiano Reggiano and other gastronomic specialties that make the city and our region so famous in terms of food!

For an extension of the tour from half day to a full day private tour, after a lunch stop in the medieval market I propose a complete visit of the complex of Santo Stefano, Via Zamboni and the university area , with entrance into the church of San Giacomo Maggiore and the Oratory of Santa Cecilia, nicknamed the Bolognese "Sistine Chapel". To finish, a passage through the alleys of the ancient Jewish ghetto and a view of Via Piella and the last open-air canal existing in the city.
